I recently finished season 4 of Overlord, based on the light novels by Kugane Maruyama. I currently own all fourteen volumes of the light novel that are translated to English. This fourth season has been among my favorites yet, and incorporates content from volumes 10, 11, and 14.

SPOILERS: By the fourth season, Ainz has lost most of the humanity he once had and is convinced by his subordinates to follow a plan of rapid conquest of the surrounding nations. The culmination of this appears in the final third of the season (covering volume 14) where Ainz makes an official change in foreign policy. It is here that he decides to fully embrace the archetype of being a ruthless villain and vows to obliterate its neighboring country after political schemes bring the two nations to war. The end of the season shows the complete and intentional destruction of the entire country, with even the capital city being reduced to rubble, and signaling a major twist as the audience is suddenly introduced to previously only hinted-at characters who present a complete upheaval in the current understanding of how the world works.
The content of the latest books and the latest season cements this anime/book series as my favorite fiction content.
